Official Birds of Japan and New Zealand

About Official Birds of Japan
The Official bird is Green Pheasant or Japanese Pheasant (in Japanese kiji). They were decided by The Ornithological Society of Japan (in Japanese nihontorigakkai) in 1947. There are four reasons why they were decided. First, you can see them all year in Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu because they are not migrant- they don't move abroad. Second, males are elegant and their wings are also beautiful. Third, they are big, their meat is delicious and they are good to hunt. Finally, they are birds proper to Japan- Japan used to own them. In Japan people hunt them but other countries don't hunt their official birds, only Japan. They are main birds for hunting all over the world. The males' size is about 80 cm. The females' size is about 60cm. The males' weight is 0.8kg~ 1.1kg. The emales' weight is 0.6kg~ 0.9kg.

About Official Birds of New Zealand
The Official bird is kiwi. Their size is like chicken. They can't fly but can run fast. New Zealand is heaven for birds because there aren't animals which eat birds and the country was rich in foods. So they stopped flying. Their eyesight is weak. They are nocturnal- they act during the only night. They hide in a hole of a tree during the day. After evening they act for finding foods. They put their bills into ground and catch worms (in Japanese mimizu) and larvae- insects'babies then eat them. They also eat fruits. They are disappearing so they are preserved.
