Guy Fawkes Night

I’m going to tell you about other Guy Fawkes Night’s things.

This is Guy Fawkes.

‘Guy’ is derived from his name. This festival is also called ‘Guy Fawkes Day’, ‘Bonfire Night’ and ‘Fireworks Night’. It’s not held in Northern Ireland. In around Wales, he is a convict, but in around Scotland, he is a hero. Parliament decided that every November 5 was a national holiday for thanksgiving the joyful day of deliverance in 1606. This festival is derived from the national holiday. The plot couldn’t be succeeded but after 229 years, on October 16, 1834, big fire broke out in the Houses of Parliament in London. Gunpowder Plot is told by British nursery rhyme.

Remember, remember,
The fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot
We gunpowder treasonShould ever be forgot!

About 600 million people come there from around the world. It's traditional event in Munich. It's held at a large place which is called Theresienwiese in the western part of the Munich. The area of this place is 42 hectare. It has been held since 1810. It has 14 big tents which are called Beer Hall and 16 medium and small tents. It also has thousands of seats outside of the tents. There are about 6000 or 7000 seats in the big tents. Theresienwiese is filled to capacity all day. There are stages in the center of the tents. Brass bands play Pop songs and cheerful Bavarian ethnic music. Some people who have mugs for beer dance with music. When there is a sign for cheer, people say 'prost (cheer)' loudly. Everybody, not only young people but also old people wear ethnic clothes. Women wear checked, striped and flowered one piece which is like a farmer clothes. Men wear leather half pant.

How fun!
